2nd place at shoal lake
For those of you that follow my blog on here, my apologies for not updating my site for the past couple week. I had my appendix removed the third week in June so I was down for a while and did not have a lot to report.
Chris Savage and I took 2nd place at Shoal Lake this past weekend. We were actually leading after day one with 16.73. We brought in 16.36 on day two for a two day total of 33.09 pounds and came up a little bit short of Ted and Louise Stewner who had a two day total of 33.38 pounds to earn them $12,000.
We weighed in 10 smallmouths over the weekend and caught them on a variety of baits. We spent a lot of time throwing jerkbaits and caught a number of fish on #10 Rapala X-Raps and Maxx Raps. We used the jerkbaits to cover water and find fish. Once we found fish we pitched pearl Northland Slurpies Grubs to them rigged on an 1/8 oz. Slurp Jig. All the fish we caught were spitting up smelt so we used baits to imitate the slender baitfish.
We spent a few hours each day largemouth fishing and that was our downfall. Usually they help us out but we could not get them going and wasted a fair amount of time chasing them. Oh well...we'll get them at KBI in a month.
Scott Cook and Jerry Millar display part of their tournament big catch on day two of 18.95 pounds that helped earn them a 3rd place finish.
