Sturgeon Bay Open

Congratulations to Troy Norman and Andrew Carlson for winning the Sturgeon Bay Open Bass Tournament this past weekend on Lake Michigan.  For their efforts the boys won a new boat and $10,000.  They also weighed in the first bass over 7 pounds in the tournament's 20 year history to take the big bass award on day two.

Dave Bennett and I had a great week fishing at Sturgeon Bay and left with a 16th place finish.  Fishing got tougher for us in the days leading up to the tournament and stayed that way through the event.  We struggled up day one and only put a limit in the boat during the final hour.  We saw a lot of fish throughout the day but we had a tough time making them bite.  On day two we stuck to fishing shallow water and had a much better catch.

Good start to the season

The 2010 tournament season got off to a good start on Sunday, May 9.  Dave Bennet and I took 2nd place in a 30 boat tournament out of Little Sturgeon, on Lake Michigan.  We came down a week early to practice for the upcoming Sturgeon Bay Open taking place this weekend and got the week started off right.  Here are the top ten standings and a couple photos. 

Dave and I also took big bass honors with a 7 pound monster, by far the biggest smallmouth I have ever caught.  Look for some GIANT weights this weekend in the Open.  Follow online at www.sbobt.org

Here is a good haul from a single day a couple weeks ago...about 75 sheds between the four of us.  Biggest was a 65 incher....not including the big moose antler. 

BIG SHEDS!!!!

Here are a few pictures of some big sheds that we found today.  I've been shed hunting for the past three weeks and it's been good.  Between me and my buddies we've found over 400 sheds.  Look for a few more pictures this week.

78 inch MONSTER shed!

A shed from this monster from the previous year.  Found about 100 yards apart.  The matches were MIA.

Deer still at large...pt. 2

     

We had pictures of this guy in 2008 but he eluded us last year until late in the season.  Potentially a really big buck this year. 

We had a number of pictures of this buck but nobody hooked up with him in the tree stand.  Another beauty!

Wide and heavy, look at the ear on this fighter! 

    

This guy is Mr. Big.  Can't wait to see what he looks like this year!
